I thought I would share my response to a customer who was asking for help with locating hearing protection for his family when flying and also for use in the swimming pool whilst on holiday in sunny Dubia.

Well in response to the request for information I advised that there are actually many ear plugs that help reduce the pain caused by cabin pressure when flying.  These ear plugs are actually relatively cheap and do not require any form of doctors precription.

As the customer was also looking for something that would help protect their ears when in water, I recommended buying a pair of moldable silicone ear plugs. The great advantage of these type of plugs is they are waterproof as well as moldable, which really helps with reducing cabin pressure and also off course when in contact with water.

These silicone ear plugs generally last for approximately 2 -3 weeks, if looked after properly by drying off any water and placing them in the provided casing.

What is really odd is the general feedback we receive from our customers is that the standard foam type of plugs supplied inflight are not really that useful. I am actually suprised that airlines do not actually offer, or in the worst case senario, sell silicone earplugs inflight. It is all well and good offering a sweet as some form of relieve for this pain but on most ocassions this does not work which unfourtunately for some people can really overshadow the experience of flying.

Flying for the majority of us normally entails the start of a joyous ocassions such as the summer vaction. However for quite a large amount of people the pain and discomfort bought on by the suffering caused by pain caused by cabin pressure can actually put a bit damper on the start of a holiday.

To help combat this I would recommend using a pair of ear plugs designed for this purpose in mind. Although airlines do normally hand out ear plugs, according to our customers, they normally do not fit the bill when it comes to reducing the cabin pressurefelt on the ears.

We stock a rage of ear plugs fit for this purpose and now have a section dedicated to flying ear plugs. As you can see from the above link the majority of ear plugs are actually quite cost effective, espically when you weight up the cost of the discomfort caused.
